Nelson

Nelson is located in the northern part of the south island of New Zealand. Nelson has one of the highest number of sunshine hours in New Zealand which is important in the Land of the Long White Cloud. Nelson and Richmond are the urban centers of the area.

Nelson and Richmond will appeal to lovers of coffee and fine art with many galleries and street cafes. In and around Nelson and Richmond there are activities like kayaking and boating on the harbour, mountain biking, skywire, horse riding, kite-surfing and helicopter rides.

Nelson is a fruit growing region and has wineries and breweries so there are opportunities for work during picking seasons.

The area has some beautiful national parks including the Able Tasman, Kahurangi and Nelson Lakes. The Abel Tasman Coastal Track is one of New Zealand’s Great Walks which can take three to five days to walk taking in some special scenery including pristine beaches, lagoons and native bush. Kahurangi is New Zealand's second largest national park. There are short walks and several day walking options. Nelson Lakes National Park has spectacular beech forests and isolated glacial lakes. There are a number of walks of varying lengths including a track that goes around the lake. Near St Arnaud, is the Rainbow Ski Area which overlooks Lake Rotoiti and Nelson Lakes National Park. There is skiing for all from beginner to advanced over winter.
